If you spend any time in Wales, one word appears everywhere: Cymru. It is the Welsh-language name for Wales, and it sits at the heart of how the country describes itself.

Welsh — Cymraeg — is a living national language used on road signs, in schools, on television, at sporting events and in everyday conversation. Official Welsh tourism material welcomes visitors with Croeso i Gymru: welcome to Wales. For many people, using Cymru is therefore more than translation. It is a direct connection to the language and culture of the country itself.
